What is Boxycharm? For those that do not know, Boxycharm is a $21 monthly subscription service (with an average of $100+ value), created by Yosef Martin. Each month you will receive 4 to 5 (sometimes 6, which can be a sample) full-size products.
The box this month’s theme is Sweet Treats – SUGAR IS SWEET BUT THIS BOX IS SWEETER.
What I got:
For the month of March, I received 6 full-sized products. 2 Makeup Geek eyeshadows (1 Matte in Cocoa Bear and 1 Duochrome in Blacklight), valued at $6 each, a Vasanti Blush Brush, valued at $29, a Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Pencil, valued at $18, a Catherine Malandrino Style De Paris Perfume, unsure of the actual value, but on the Boxycharm website it says $20, and a Clark’s Botanicals Anti-Puff Eye Cream, valued at $87.
Makeup Geek Eyeshadows – I have never tried Makeup Geek eyeshadows, but I have always wanted to. So color me surprised that not 1 but 2 eyeshadows (in 2 different finishes) came in this month’s box. You were able to receive different shades, but the shades I received was Cocoa Bear and Blacklight. Cocoa Bear is described as a “soft, snuggly, and keeps you safe from boogie monsters”. That it is a rich and warm brown that makes people want to snuggle up with you. Basically, a matte reddish brown. And, Blacklight is described as an “electric punch of spectacular cool tones, it is a lights out shade”. That it is velvety and vibrant duochrome. Basically, an electric purple base with icy blue reflects. The description of these eyeshadows matches the actual product perfectly. When I see these eyeshadows, I see why they were described this way. I absolutely love the rich brown color of Cocoa Bear and the purple-ly blue (almost like a mermaid) color of Blacklight. I cannot wait to see what I can create with these 2 colors. (Update – I created a look on my Instagram page: makeup_passion_bydivinity)
Vasanti Blush Brush – I tend to use fluffy brushes to apply my blush when I actually use blush. So keep in mind that I may apply blush once a month, for special occasions, so I may not be the best when it comes to reviewing blush brushes. Also, I did not apply the blush to my face, but my wrist. However, I will say that it is incredibly soft and smooth. But, it is described as feeling “soft and smooth as it blends any powder flawlessly into the skin). I don’t see it. I feel like the brush couldn’t hold the product, so the product got everywhere. Also, I feel like the application wasn’t smooth, and took me some time to make sure the blush was blended. I will continue to try it out with different types and brands of blushes. If you want an update, leave a comment.
Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Pencil – is described as a “fine-tipped mechanical pencil” that has a “creamy texture for easy application and a flawless, natural look”. I will be the first to say that I absolutely suck when it comes to doing my eyebrows and most of the time I don’t do them. However, with this pencil being thin enough, it lets me be able to have control and is just creamy hard enough that the product doesn’t slip. I still need to practice more, but I am able to create a full look now with the easiness of this pencil.
Catherine Malandrino Style De Paris Perfume – is described as with “notes of ruby red grapefruit and nashi pear, with blends of orange blossom and gardenia”, “a chic scent that is the epitome of spring – elegant mid notes of violet and ocean breeze will leave the ultimate impression”. I am not the type to be picky with the type of perfume I wear. If I think it smells good, then I’ll wear it. Some people hate getting perfume samples in their boxes, but I enjoy them. I don’t want to go out to buy perfume because perfume stores tend to smell like a perfume store. Way too many scents for me. With that in mind, I will say that I love the way this perfume smells. The aroma of orange blossom and gardenia is the most prominent fragrance, so if you don’t like sweet floral scents you won’t like this. To me, it smells like what you think a woman would smell like, sweet, sexy, and sensual with a hint of mystery.
Clark’s Botanical Anti-Puff Eye Cream – is described as a cream that “targets fine lines, dark circles and puffiness with a high concentration of vitamins and botanicals. Your skin will feel bright, soft and smooth”. I have only been using this for a few (4-5) days and have seen a difference. Being a college student, I tend to have huge dark circles. Plus, I don’t wear a full-face of makeup every day, so I need eye creams/serums to help with that. I was able to go outside and meet a friend and have that friend ask me what kind of miracle cream I am using because my dark circles were lighter than usual. The only drawback is the price, so when it’s gone, it’s gone.
What It Comes Down To:
Is this month’s box worth the $21 price tag? Yes. Every last item (minus the blush brush) in this month’s box is something I am going to use and enjoy. I have already been falling in love with Makeup Geek’s Blacklight and Catherine Malandrino Style De Paris Perfume. The box of March was extremely well selected. The only negative aspect was some of the products prices. The full-size of the Catherine Malandrino Style De Paris Perfume and Clark’s Botanical Anti-Puff Eye Cream, but if you buy smaller or the sample sizes, there’s not a problem since most people so not go through a full-size bottle of perfume in a year.
I cannot wait for next month’s box.
